So I figured I’d save your lives by pimping out Hiro Mashima.
If you don’t know who he is and watch/read Fairy Tail…then… ( ・_・)ノ⌒●~
Anyway, Hiro Mashima is a mangaka. He was born on May 3, 1977. His works are
- Rave Master [or Groove Rave Master]
- Plue’s Dog Diaries
- Mashima-en Vol 1-2 *[one-shots brought together in 2 vol.]
- Monster Soul
- Fairy Tail
- Monster Hunter Orage
- Chameleon
- Nishikaze to Taiyou
- Sangokushi Taisen
- Respect Gundam
Mashima’s main characters have been named after seasons.
- Haru = Spring [Groove Adventure Rave / Rave Master]
- Natsu = Summer [Fairy Tail]
- Aki = Autumn [Monster Soul]
- Fuyu = Winter [Can’t find the character but he says he’s used it already.]
- Shiki = Four Seasons [Monster Hunter Orage]
In his manga Fairy Tail, he’s included a lot of qualities from Rave Master. He’s included some characters from Rave Master to appear as background characters in certain chapters. You can recognize a few from the Fairy Tail x Rave Master Crossover.
- His drawing inspirations were/are Yudetamago and Toriyama Akira. He used to trace Toriyama’s work and gradually realized he wanted to go pro.
- His grandfather would find discarded manga for him to read and would trace the pictures.
- He has never worked as an assistant to any artist.
- He’s also never missed a deadline.
- He has one daughter.
- Mashima likes to make his villains have a reason for going…bad. He doesn’t want the audience to think that the characters are only black and white so he likes to give meaning behind their transformation in personalities and actions.
- He went to art school in hopes of improving his art skills but didn’t like the methods and taught himself.
- Mashima had taken a 60-page original work for editors to review. He then won an amateur manga artists’ competition and debuted a year later in 1999.
- His characters are usually based off of him, his co-workers and his friends. [For example, Natsu’s motion sickness was based off of his friend]
- A lot of people comment on the similarities between the One Piece artwork and Fairy Tail but both Hiro Mashima and Eiichiro Oda were both inspired by Toriyama Akira. Their artworks each have their color to them.
Here’s a video of Hiro Mashima drawing Natsu Dragneel. x
